GIS CERTIFICATE

The University of Venda is offering the following short course under the Univen Centre for Continuing Education (UCCE), a unit of Univen Income Generation Centre.

CERTIFICATE IN GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS

OBJECTIVES: To equip participants with knowledge and practical skills to apply Geographical Information Systems (GIS) technology to solving spatial problems and decision making to familiarize delegates with ArcGIS 10.4.1, the market leading GIS software package by ESRI.

TARGET GROUPS; Town planners. Geologists, Hydrologists, Surveyors, educators, researchers, undergraduate and post-graduate students, companies, local government authorities, regulatory authorities, farmers, health practitioners, NGOs, environmental consultants, etc.

PRESENTATION: One block session of maximum capacity: 20 participants. One week of lectures and practical’s.

INTAKE DATES: 2nd – 6th April, 18th – 22nd June, 24th -28th September and 3rd – 7th December 2018

PACKAGE: learning materials, tea, coffee and full lunch.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT: R7000, 00 per participant, Univen student only R6000, 00 which includes tea, coffee, full lunch and learning materials. Delegates are required to pay a deposit of R5000, 00 which can be deposited at FNB, acc name: Univen Income Generation Centre; acc no: 62302437042, Branch code: 260549 ref; no; GIS & SURNAME. Confirm booking one week before commencement of lectures to ensure a place for the intake of the course. The balance is payable before or on the first day of the course.

Environmental practice National Qualification level 4 Graduation

It is always in the heart of UIGC to promote further Education and Training certificate and to offer free skills to people who are from a poor background through learnership, internships etc. UIGC celebrates with Environmental practice (National qualification level 4) graduates at the department of Public works, Mopani District Hall, Giyani Limpopo.

The purpose of the graduation ceremony is to certificate learners for the qualification of Environmental practice (National qualification level 4 ) .The learners started with their qualification in 2015 which was a 12 months Programme. However, this Programme was managed by three stake holders namely ETDP SETA (funding provider), University of Venda (training provider) and LEDET (host employer). The graduates did not pay anything to get this wonderfully qualifications but all this happened through the help of ETDP SETA. “Said by Dr TK Takalani who’s also an acting head of short skills in UIGC”.

Ms. M. Khuzwayo (District coordinator at the department of public works, Mopani district hall, Giyani). Ms Khuzwayo welcomed every Individuals who attend the ceremony.

Words of response from Mr. Clement Sithole ETDP SETA (Skills Advisor).

Sithole began his speech by explaining how in his culture they express themselves when they are happy and that’s why he feel honored to come and celebrate this ceremony with the graduates since the qualification will work to open doors in their lives. Further he acknowledged the Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET) for accommodating the learners in their working environment and the University of Venda for providing training. He wrapped his speech by quoting words of the late president of South Africa Nelson Mandela ‘education is the most powerful weapon that you need to use everywhere you go’

Graduate representative

Graduate response with countless thanks to the University of Venda for the knowledge that they have imbedded in them. It was not an easy journey but throuth the help of LEDET and the University of Venda they made it through. Today they can regard themselves as hard workers through the experience they received. He acknowledged the ETDP SETA for funding the program and the stipend that they used to get monthly. He further quoted the words of our Late President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela “The  won’t be a development in a village if people are not educated”.

Mr Malebati congratulated and told the learners that, the graduation day is a season of hard work and hope. His words to the graduates was that they cannot train and let go but they will make sure that they travel the journey together.
